Issue 6 | Thursday, November 6
Hello, neighbor! Welcome to the Sherwood Sun weekly newsletter.
We're just one month into our soft launch, and already have published 21 stories, generated 97 subscribers, and reached more than 2,070 neighbors — that's over 10% of Sherwood's population!
But I'm only one journalist working on The Sun in my spare time, and I can't do it alone. I can only promise two Sherwood-based stories per week, because I'm self-funding my work here by freelancing for other outlets including Newsberg, Tigard Life, Active Media, and Business Insider.
If you want to see more stories from Sherwood, please help us earn subscribers by sharing our news with your friends! Every reader helps us grow.
We also welcome donations and would love to earn the support of more sponsors and advertisers. Every dollar we earn here goes straight back into advancing The Sun — our wishlist includes better software for our local events calendar, and a laser printer for a possible future print edition.
In this week's edition, we cover a new Sherwood-based nonprofit helping people stop their technology addictions; places to find free food or donate right here in town while federal food assistance is delayed; and the Sherwood City Council's new ideas for Old Town's master plan.
Support local journalism and your neighbors, and read on!
— Jules Rogers, founder, editor, neighbor
P.S. In case you were wondering, the levy measures on Sherwood's ballot — one for public safety and one for libraries in Washington County — both passed.
Let's get straight to the news:
💽 Analog Alpha launches nonprofit in Sherwood
A new local nonprofit wants to help people stop their technology addictions with education and community connection — and by making it a cool act of defiance for kids to put down their phones and games.
🏙️ City Council talks new ideas for Old Town master plan
In a preliminary work session, the Sherwood City Council discussed development of the vacant lot at the Sherwood Center for the Arts as well as the full Old Town Strategic Action Plan vision.

🛒 Here’s where to find free food or donate in Sherwood
Some Sherwoodians are experiencing limited grocery funds this month due to the federal government shutdown, which included a lapse in food assistance.
☀️ Letter from the editor: Welcome to the Sherwood Sun!
