Letter from the Editor: One year of Sherwood Sun news
October marks the first anniversary of the Sherwood Sun. Here are our most-read top five stories from our first year.
SHERWOOD, Ore. — Hello readers,
October marks the first anniversary of the Sherwood Sun news. Wow!
It’s hard to believe that one year ago in September, I was registering the LLC, building the website, putting together the calendar, and beginning our first coverage of school board and city council meetings.
Some of our very first stories were about the homecoming parade, the opening of BearKat Brewing, and some spooky Halloween events like Haunted Sherwood from the Historical Society and the Pirates of Pinehurst. Soon after that, Sherwood’s Chick-fil-A and Goldfish Swim School celebrated their grand openings.
I sent our very first free weekly email newsletter on October 2, 2025 — to 12 readers. One year later, that newsletter is marking its 50th edition, and is sent to about 550 subscribers!
In January 2026, I sold the Sherwood Sun to Aurora-based Active Media, and the paper now has a monthly print edition distributed to 10,000 mail boxes and 10 newspaper racks across Sherwood. We’ve incorporated more reporters, local columnists, and plenty of advertisers who help keep the Sherwood Sun in business — and free for all readers.
If you love having a hyperlocal newspaper, help support the Sherwood Sun by sharing stories with friends, subscribing to our free weekly newsletter, and advertising with us.
Without further ado, here are the top 5 Sherwood Sun stories from our first year:
