Sherwood Area Chamber of Commerce Column: A Sherwood Fourth of July filled with community
The Sherwood Area Chamber of Commerce's June column explores how we celebrate America's 250th

SHERWOOD, Ore. — This July 4th marks a milestone unlike any other — America’s 250th birthday — a moment that invites us to reflect not only on our nation’s history, but on the communities that keep its spirit alive. Here in Sherwood, we celebrate that legacy every day through our shared commitment to connection, service, and the freedoms that define who we are.
Two hundred and fifty years ago, a bold idea took root: that people could build a nation grounded in liberty, self-determination, and the belief that every voice matters. Today, those same ideals echo through our local traditions – like the Robin Hood Festival, our golf tournament, and the Classic Car show. Those very same ideals show up in the way we support one another, welcome newcomers, and gather — year after year — to celebrate the values that bind us together.
Sherwood’s neighborhood festivities have always been more than a holiday. They’re a reminder of what community looks like when it’s at its best: families lining the streets, children waving flags, local businesses having sales, and neighbors greeting neighbors with the kind of warmth that makes our town feel like home. This year, as we honor our nation’s 250th, we are living through some divisiveness. But we’ve survived it in the past and we will survive it again through a long-standing tradition of patriotism.
Freedom is not just a word in a history book. It’s a remarkably high price that was paid by brave men and women before us. We should not ever forget that. It’s the ability to build a business, raise a family, speak our minds, and shape the future of our community. The Sherwood Chamber of Commerce is proud to stand alongside the residents, volunteers, and organizations who make this city shine. Our local businesses embody the entrepreneurial spirit that helped build this country. Our families and community groups reflect the resilience and generosity that have carried America through every chapter of its story. And our shared traditions — like this year’s 250th July 4th celebration — remind us that freedom is strongest when it is celebrated.
From all of us at the Sherwood Chamber of Commerce — Happy 250th Independence Day. May your celebrations be patriotic, your gatherings meaningful, and your hearts full of gratitude for the freedom we share.
