Sherwood residents dressed as cows to eat free chicken at the town’s latest fast food restaurant, Chick-fil-A. Cars lined up for the drive-thru, and residents gathered at the walk-up window to eat in the heated picnic pavilion.

The new Chick-fil-A opened October 9 at Sherwood Plaza, 16280 S.W. Langer Dr.—one of six Chick-fil-A restaurants slated to open across Oregon by early 2027, creating more than 600 jobs, according to the franchise. There are currently 14 Chick-fil-A spots open in Oregon.

Local resident Manuel Salcedo waited in line with a print-out cow costume to receive his free chicken meal.

“Usually around here you see bread and meat, but I like salad and shakes,” Salcedo said. “More than anything, it’s so local, so most people see each other here. We’ve been waiting for it to open for a little while.”

Jeffrey Weston (Jules Rogers/Sherwood Sun)

Local and former engineer Jeffrey Weston is the owner of the Sherwood location.

“For the past 15 years, my wife and I have raised our three children in this community not far from Sherwood Plaza, so being selected as this restaurant’s local owner-operator feels especially meaningful,” Weston said. “Sherwood is a community that loves to gather, and I look forward to serving great tasting food for guests to enjoy together on our covered patio or around the table with family and friends at home.”

The Sherwood Chick-fil-A is participating in the franchise’s Shared Table program, which redirects surplus food to local shelters, food banks, and nonprofits. The location also donated $25,000 to Feeding America to support local hunger relief efforts in the Portland area.

“Oregon is a place where natural beauty, a pioneering spirit and a strong sense of community come together in a truly special way,” said Scott Stover, area director for the West Region. “Our local owner-operators have enjoyed the privilege of serving Oregonians for nearly a decade, creating remarkable experiences for our guests through delicious food, signature hospitality, and welcoming environments. As we open more restaurants across the state, including our first restaurant in the city of Portland, we look forward to supporting guests, team members and vibrant communities across the state."
