SHERWOOD, Ore. — The Chevron car wash at the corner of Highway 99 and Southwest Sherwood Boulevard is now open around the clock after months of renovations. Area Sales Representative Alicia Hernandez said they remodeled the ExtraMile convenience store first and then upgraded the car wash, completing that at the end of this summer.

“Chevron has always been in Sherwood,” she said, “There was so much growth in the area that we wanted to grow with it. So, the store got bigger, and the car wash also needed an upgrade. It was time for it.”

Hernandez, who represents the 10 corporate stores in the southern Pacific Northwest for Chevron, said they want to be the go-to for this community.

“When we were down for construction, and the car wash was down, people were like, ‘hey, you guys are my car wash,’” she said. “So being that staple in the community —everybody's favorite place to go — we’re not just Chevron, we’re your neighborhood Chevron.”

The three self-based car washes next to the brand-new tunnel car wash at 21090 S.W. Pacific Highway are still the originals. It was the drive-through tunnel that was refreshed.

The car wash tunnel was an innovation of the vehicle-washing company, Mark VII.

“It has a cool new lighting feature it didn’t have before, where it has three different versions of the car wash,” Hernandez said. “It goes from a basic to a more in-depth clean where it cleans the tires and it sprays the undercarriage.”

Everything inside that tunnel is brand new. Hernandez said when drivers move through the car wash tunnel, with the soap being multicolored, they are treated to an innovative experience.

“New soap, new cleaning. The soap is multicolored, and then there's a rainbow light that's passing over as the car is getting cleaned,” she said. “Before it was just kind of a dull experience; now there's actual lighting that goes through it.”

Hernandez said since it's a brand-new machine, it has better operating equipment than they had before, but they still had to clear the tunnel car wash of a few kinks this past summer.

“The whole inside was gutted,” she said. “We have new brushes, in the actual machine that passes over your car.”

And, instead of just seeing white soap, the drivers go through a tunnel that adds color to their car wash.

“When I talked to the young ladies at Chick-fil-A this summer, they're like, ‘Hey, when is your car wash going to be open? You guys are the only one in the area.’ So, I definitely heard a need from the community that they wanted the car wash there and they're happy to have it there,” Hernandez said. “We want to make sure that we can provide the best customer service that we can — that is our goal.”

The Chevron car wash and convenience stores are open 24 hours, seven days a week. Hernandez said the only exception is if their workers have to take their lunches. By Oregon law, she said that’s the only time they’re closed.
