SHERWOOD, Ore. — Sherwood families will soon have a new option for academic support as Huntington Learning Center prepares to open its doors this August.

The new center will provide individualized tutoring for students in kindergarten through high school, offering instruction in reading, writing, math, science, study skills and SAT/ACT test preparation. Each student will begin with an academic evaluation before receiving a customized learning plan designed around their goals and learning style.

Executive Director Nikki Chand said opening a Huntington Learning Center in Sherwood was inspired by both her professional background in education and her experiences as a parent.

“My inspiration came from seeing firsthand how much students can thrive when they receive the right support, encouragement, and individualized attention,” Chand said.

She said throughout her career, she has brought passion for education, mentorship, and creating opportunities for people to succeed, while as a parent, she has seen how important it is for students to have the right resources, encouragement, and someone who believes in their potential.

"My children have been a tremendous inspiration in my life and have strengthened my belief in the power of education, patience, and individualized support," Chand said. "My son's educational journey especially showed me how transformative the right support and encouragement can be for a child's confidence and growth."

Chand said she understands the challenges families face when searching for resources to help their children succeed and wanted to bring a trusted educational resource to the community.

"Huntington has more than 49 years of experience helping students improve academically, build confidence, and develop stronger learning habits," Chand said. "Bringing that mission to Sherwood is an exciting opportunity to invest in the future of our community."

According to Chand, the center will serve students at all academic levels, whether they need help catching up, strengthening foundational skills, tackling a challenging subject or preparing for college entrance exams like the SAT and ACT.

"Our goal is to meet every student where they are and create a personalized learning plan based on their individual needs," Chand said.

Every student begins with an academic evaluation to identify strengths, areas for improvement and learning goals. Certified teachers then create individualized programs, monitoring progress and adjusting instruction as students develop.

"We believe successful learning is not one-size-fits-all," Chand said. "Students need support that recognizes their unique abilities and helps them build confidence."

Chand said Sherwood's growing population and strong commitment to education made it a natural fit for the learning center.

"While our schools do an incredible job supporting students, many families are looking for additional resources outside of the classroom," Chand said. "Every student learns differently, and sometimes students need extra time, attention or a different approach to fully understand a concept and build confidence."

Programs are customized for each student, so tuition varies depending on academic needs and recommended services. Families are encouraged to schedule an academic evaluation before enrolling.

Looking beyond the August opening, Chand hopes the center becomes more than a tutoring service.

"My hope is that Huntington Learning Center of Sherwood becomes a valuable resource and partner for families in our community," Chand said. "Beyond academics, we want to help students develop confidence, independence and lifelong learning skills."

Families can begin scheduling consultations and the enrollment process ahead of the center's opening. Chand said the center also plans to partner with local schools and community organizations as it becomes established in Sherwood.

“Sherwood is a growing community with many families who value education and want the best opportunities for their children. While our schools do an incredible job supporting students, many families are looking for additional resources outside of the classroom,” Chand said. “We are grateful for the opportunity to bring Huntington Learning Center to Sherwood and look forward to helping students reach their goals.”

The Sherwood Huntington Learning Center is currently hiring tutors and teachers.
