A Sherwood senior living center is officially under new ownership and management.

The residential property at 16872 S.W. Edy Rd., formerly known as The Ackerly, has new owners under the brand Merrill Gardens. The company celebrated the new ownership with a ribbon-cutting party on Thursday, November 6.

Jason Childers, chief operating officer at Seattle-based Merrill Gardens, attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“We are so thrilled to be here in Sherwood,” Childers said. “We did invest in this community, and I think there's a distinct difference between the prior ownership and Merrill: We're not just a management company, we are actually the owner and the management company here. This is something we want to be a part of our family for years to come, and that is an investment.”

According to Childers, Merrill Gardens developed and opened a community in downtown Hillsboro last May, and purchased another community in Cedar Mill, for a total of 61 Merrill Garden communities across 16 states.

“We have a lot in Washington, a lot in California, and a bunch of other states, but we've always had this little hole between Washington and California, and we're so thrilled to now be a part of the Sherwood community,” Childers said. “When you walk into this community, you feel something special. It's a beautiful community, but it's really the team … and all of the residents.”

Merrill Gardens is one of three senior living facilities in Sherwood, including The Springs and Avamere. Merrill offers independent living, assisted living, and memory care, as well as dining, fitness, field trips, and housekeeping.

“Thank you to all the residents for welcoming Merrill Gardens into this community, and thank you for being a part of our family,” Childers said.
