Sherwood Chamber of Commerce presents Cruisin’ Sherwood

SHERWOOD, Ore. — Cool vintage cars, live music and local fundraising will return to Old Town Sherwood this summer as Cruisin’ Sherwood celebrates its 34th year on Aug. 8 from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m., followed by the Block Party from 4-10 p.m.

As Old Town streets close to traffic and open to pedestrians, local businesses, sponsors, and vendors set up booths for the day selling snacks and merchandise. Sherwood Cruisers and other car enthusiasts will bring their custom and classic vehicles to display, including hot rods, trucks, and motorcycles, showcasing automotive history and craftsmanship and competing for trophies across nine different categories. 

Sherwood Cruisin’ is one of the Sherwood Area Chamber of Commerce’s summer community events. According to Renee Brouse, the Cruisin' event manager and planner, the biggest new change this year is the date.

“We've moved Cruisin’ from June to August, and we're excited about the opportunities that brings,” Brouse said. “We're hoping for great weather, strong attendance, and an even bigger community celebration as people come together to enjoy the event.”

Dave Murray, chamber executive director, said it used to always rain on Cruisin’ day.

“Now with the August date, we can talk about a nice summer day,” Murray said.

Brouse said that also this year, DJ Shawn Stokes is returning and attendees will hear tunes from Seymour and Smith, GHD, and Hit Machine during the block party at the beer garden — where all the beer and wine are from local Sherwood businesses.

Murray said the long-standing tradition of the Cruisin’ is for everyone, even those who aren’t car enthusiasts who live and breathe automobiles.

“At the heart of the matter we all enjoy vintage cars, muscle cars, as well as ‘fast and furious’ cars,” Murray said. “For me, I cannot fix anything on a car, but I enjoy looking at those old-time cars and if there's a 1967 restored Mustang, I start my Walter Mitty daydream, envisioning me in the driver’s seat.”

The Cruisin’ brings relationships, fun, and community spirit to Sherwood, according to Brouse. 

“It celebrates automotive heritage while creating opportunities for people to connect with friends, neighbors, and visitors,” Brouse said. “It's an event that brings generations together and showcases the welcoming atmosphere that makes Sherwood special.”

Murray said his favorite part of the Cruisin’ is the people. 

“It sounds corny, but I always meet someone new, and some of the car owners are characters themselves,” Murray said.

Brouse loves seeing everyone come together for the event, and said that it reminds her of her hometown in Auburn, Indiana.

“That connection to automotive history makes Cruisin’ especially meaningful to me,” Brouse said. “ I love watching people admire both the classic and newer vehicles, sharing stories, and enjoying the nostalgia that comes with the event.”
