Sherwood Chevron rebuild nears finish line
Gas station, ExtraMile convenience store slated to open in late February
SHERWOOD, Ore. — A rebuilt Chevron gas station at the corner of Highway 99 and Southwest Sherwood Boulevard is nearing completion and is slated to reopen later this month.
The Chevron gas station, located at 21090 S.W. Pacific Hwy., has been closed during construction and will reopen soon with a larger ExtraMile convenience store.
The project development included a complete demolition and rebuild of the existing Chevron station, construction of a new convenience store, and upgraded fueling infrastructure. Improvements include new underground storage tanks for multiple fuel types, new sidewalk and landscaping, surface parking, a propane refill area, and air and water unit, and a trash enclosure.
According to plans, the ExtraMile convenience store will be about 3,600 square feet and include 16 parking spaces. The site will have three underground fuel tanks holding 20,000 gallons of regular gasoline, 15,000 gallons of premium, and 10,000 gallons of diesel.
“The new convenience store is close to being completed. They have a punch list from the city for items to complete prior to issuance of occupancy,” said Eric Rutledge, City of Sherwood community development director. “They will likely be able to open by the end of February.”
ExtraMile convenience store is a joint venture between Chevron and Jacksons Food Stores launched in 2018 with more than 1,000 locations.
Washington-based Barghausen Consulting Engineers is the civil engineer firm on the Sherwood project, and met with the city in November 2022 to begin the development process.
Washington-based Joe Hall Construction is the contractor on the project. Workers on site said they are awaiting an inspection from Portland General Electric expected February 25 or 26, after seven and a half months of construction.
Once open, the rebuilt station will restore fuel service at one of Sherwood’s busiest highway intersections.
