Also over the past two years, elementary teachers engaged in comprehensive health instructional materials review, including the K-5 sex education collection and the coordinated approach to child health.

Information presentations
The first information session the school board heard this month was the safety tabletops update, regarding training and preparing staff to respond to hazards and emergencies. This school year, district staff partnered with Sherwood Police to bring a realistic scenario to each school team allowing them to practice responding to safety events and securing the safety of staff and students.
“Sherwood School District has a tremendous commitment to safety for our students, staff, and community,” said Brady Strutz, chief operations officer of the Sherwood School District. “The goal this year was to get every school team through a scenario that was specific to their school this year, and we accomplished that goal.”
He said the focus was on key elements of the safety response protocols, which include a response, a lockdown, and an evacuation.
There was also a 2025-26 athletics and activities update, showing the district remains in compliance with Title IX and sports participation tallying at 54% male and 46% female out of 1,125 roster spots and 1,602 total high school enrollment. Efforts to expand opportunities for girls include the growth of girls wrestling, the addition of junior varsity and varsity flag football, expanding to three girls tennis teams, and adding a fourth volleyball team.
“All of the athletes and activities members did an amazing job so far this year, and hopefully we have more athletic participation,” said Katie Hartman, Sherwood High School athletic director.
There were first readings of the secondary social science instructional materials, and local wellness policy update. The social sciences update includes new textbooks for AP Human Geography and U.S. History, as well as new middle school curriculum.
