SHERWOOD, Ore. — It's that time of year when the colorful, crisp trees that line Sherwood's streets begin to shed their foliage. Between crunching the pretty patterns beneath your uggs while sipping your pumpkin spice latte, remember to rake your leaves in the proper way, so the city can clear the streets.

The City of Sherwood's leaf pick-up program is returning Monday, October 26 through Friday, December 18. Every autumn, the city's Public Works Department implements a seasonal leaf pick-up program to help residents manage the fall.

Leaves should be raked into piles in the street, not on the sidewalk.

According to the city, leaving piles of leaves can entice young kids to play in them in the streets, and motorists to drive through them, creating a dangerous situation.

The street sweeper will not pick up left-behind piles, so participate in the leaf pick-up program to enhance safety and cleanliness throughout town — without filling your yard debris bin to the brim.

The program schedules pick-ups across three designated areas, over two rounds. Check the city's map to determine which area your neighborhood falls into, and when the pick-up is scheduled to come by.

Learn more at the city's Curbside Leaf Pick-up Program website.
