A new business serving man’s best friend is coming to Sherwood.

The Dog Stop franchise opened its Sherwood location on November 15, 2025, at 15200 S.W. Century Dr., #100 in Parkway Village South near Langer’s Entertainment Center.

This all-inclusive boarding and daycare company offers indoor and outdoor high-end dog boarding accommodations with an interactive and social daycare experience, a spa-like grooming area, and a retail store.

Cindy Smith, owner of The Dog Stop, said opening the business has been years in the making.

“It took me three years. Finding the right location was very difficult,” she said. “I wanted something around 10,000 square feet … that was clean,” and in a community that would welcome dogs as neighbors.

Smith, who lives near Beaverton, said she hadn’t originally planned on opening in Sherwood, but the city ultimately felt like the right fit.

“The community — it is one of the most home-grown communities,” she said. “The people are genuine. They’re very loyal.”

Smith describes herself as “that new kid on the block,” but said she’s focused on building long-term relationships.

The business is “woman owned and family operated 100%,” she said. “I’m a sole owner of this business, from beginning to the end.”

Her son helps with daily operations and her daughter manages social media and design work.

Cleanliness and air quality are key elements that set the facility apart, Smith said.

“We have a 100% fresh air filtration system that runs 24 hours a day,” she said. “There’s fresh air pumping through with multiple layers.”

The system helps ensure dogs are not “breathing filthy air… with dog hair and dander,” and is designed to help reduce the spread of kennel cough.

All staff members are certified in fear-free training techniques.

“Everything is about love, nurture, and positive reinforcements,” Smith said.

Dog parents can also log in to live dog-cams with personal passwords to check in on their pooch at any time.

To participate, dogs must demonstrate appropriate social skills, the ability to play safely with others, proper vaccinations, and flea and tick protection. The facility can accommodate about 120 daycare dogs, with four separate play areas designed by size and temperament. Dogs who aren’t neutered also have separate play areas, and are kept apart by wearing blue or pink collars.

“We care for senior dogs, and we care for shy dogs. We have all of that because we have the space designated,” Smith said.

In addition to daycare and boarding, The Dog Stop offers grooming for dogs and cats, retail products, and a “stay and train” program that allows boarding dogs to receive on-site training sessions.

“Full service — we do everything, training, retail, grooming, boarding, daycare — all under one roof,” Smith said.

Headquartered in Pittsburgh, The Dog Stop franchise was launched in 2009 and now has more than 25 locations across 12 states.

Smith said she hopes her local Sherwood business will serve local pets throughout their lives.

“This is a family-operated business that is going to embrace our community from puppyhood all the way up to when they’re seniors,” she said.

The Dog Stop is open Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
