The Sherwood Historical Society is launching a new ghostly event this spooky season.
On October 4, 11, and 25 at 7 p.m., community members can book reservations at Haunted Sherwood, and immerse themselves in local ghost stories from the past at the Sherwood Heritage Center.
Ann Wiren, a new member of the board of directors for the Sherwood Historical Society and long-time volunteer at the Heritage Center, coordinated the event.
“I've always enjoyed going on ghost tours in towns that we visit," Wiren told The Sun. "I was learning that Sherwood had a lot of ghost stories that nobody had assembled into any sort of organized tour as an ongoing tourist attraction."
Wiren said she hoped to generate more interest in the Historical Society and Heritage Center, let residents know that there’s a museum in town, and start a tradition of drawing tourists to community events by sharing some of Sherwood’s history within ghost stories.
“They’ll get to experience the Morback House, and the Smock House, and listen to ghost stories in three different locations followed by time to explore the two houses and museum as we go,” Wiren said.
Attendees will listen to 24 different ghost stories from the Sherwood area on the main floor, upstairs, and basement. Wiren said they are expecting 140 total guests across the three nights.
“I’ve gotten ghost stories from businesses in the downtown area … We also got stories from people that lived in old homes throughout the city,” Wiren said. “The Sherwood Historical Society is working to engage the community to link us to the past. We’re trying to foster family activities that are safe and fun for the entire family to come.”
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids over the age of three.
