Sherwood’s TriMet bus service changes begin Aug. 23
Sherwood's bus line will have a new route and name
SHERWOOD, Ore. — Sherwood’s bus line 97 will see a route and name change beginning Sunday, August 23.
This comes after TriMet’s board of directors voted to approve widespread service cuts after facing a $300 million budget deficit.
Originally, TriMet proposed cutting Line 97 altogether, but the City of Sherwood worked closely with the transit service to keep the bus route by combining it with another.
The new route, named 97-Tualatin-Sherwood/Kruse Way, runs from Sherwood to the Tualatin Park & Ride, through Lake Oswego, and ends at the Barbur Transit Center.
TriMet released the updated proposal packages on March 11, and the board voted 5-1 to approve it on April 22.
The adjustments affect more than 33 bus lines and will shorten the MAX Green Line. Some bus lines will see changes, moves, combinations, and reductions, while two lines, 82 to Gresham and 153 to Staffard, will be completely eliminated.
TriMet’s Manager of Media Relations Tia York said crews have been working since early August to post 3,500 signs at bus stops and MAX stations alerting riders to the changes.
“As TriMet counts the days to one of our largest service changes in recent history, we’re spreading the word and helping our riders get ready,” York said. “We’re trying to reach every rider, to prepare them for what’s ahead. While many riders will experience new routes, schedules and bus line names in the first few days, those who work hybrid schedules and ride less frequently, may be caught by surprise.”
